Nassau police rescue man from Valley Stream creek
Police officers from Nassau's Emergency Service Unit rescued a Queens man who jumped into Hook Creek in Valley Stream Monday night, according to a department news release.
Police said the 23-year-old man was threatening to jump from a ledge where he was standing when they arrived at 930 Rosedale Rd. While one officer talked to him, another donned a survival suit.
When the man jumped about 10 feet down into the water, the officer followed, diving down into the creek, which was more than 6 feet deep, several times to get ahold of him.
After a struggle, officers were able to rescue him and took him to a hospital for evaluation.
