Nassau police were called Friday to investigate reports of a home-invasion robbery at an East Garden City town house.

One row of homes at the Avalon Garden City complex on Mitchel Field Way was roped off Friday night as investigators began examining the crime scene.

A next-door neighbor who asked not to be identified said she called police after hearing loud noises and a woman pleading for her life.

"I started to hear her screaming and begging and crying," she said. "It was awful."

She said she also heard several male voices and "a lot of running around and banging."

The neighbor said she called 911 shortly after 2 p.m., and thought the disturbance next door lasted 10 to 15 minutes. Afterward, she said she saw a man who lives in the targeted apartment being taken out on a stretcher.

Police said a 35-year-old man had been stabbed in the buttocks. Two women -- 29 and 51 years old -- had minor injuries.

Despite the injuries, police said Friday night that they will stop investigating because the victims don't want to press charges.

Avalon Garden City officials addressed the incident in a cautionary email to residents. "Earlier today, there was an apparent unlawful entry at one of the apartment homes in the community," the email stated.

Residents were advised to lock their doors and be on the watch for suspicious vehicles or people.
