Nassau reopens beaches after heavy rains

All operating beaches in Nassau County reopened on Sunday after heavy rains forced their closure, the Nassau County Department of Health reported.
Nineteen Nassau County beaches had been closed due to concerns about stormwater runoff.
The reopened beaches are Centre Island Sound, Creek Club, Lattingtown Beach, Laurel Hollow Beach, Morgan Sound, North Hempstead Beach Park, Piping Rock Beach Club, Pryibil Beach, Ransom Beach, Roosevelt Beach, Sea Cliff Village Beach, Soundside Beach, Stehli Beach and Tappen Beach on the North Shore, and Biltmore Beach Club, Hewlett Point Beach, Island Park Beach, Merrick Estates Civic Association and Philip Healey Beach on the South Shore.
Six beaches are closed in Suffolk County, according to the website of that county's health department. They are: Emma Rose Elliston Memorial Park in Southampton, Great Gun Beach in Smith Point, Port Jefferson Village Beach East, Sandspit Beach in Patchogue, Wiborg Beach in East Hampton and Yardarm Condominium Beach in Westhampton Beach.
