An Amityville man burglarized a Garden City home early Wednesday while people were sleeping inside, police said.

Detectives tracking a cellphone stolen from the home found the suspect and made the arrest, according to Nassau police.

Police said Nervon Gayles, 20, entered the Third Street house at about 3 a.m. through an unlocked back door. He grabbed electronics and cellphones and fled, police said.

Garden City detectives worked with Nassau's Third Squad to find Gayles by using a cellphone locateor app. He was arrested shortly before 1 p.m., and the stolen items were recovered, police said.

Gayles, of 26 E. Smith St., was charged with second-degree burglary and fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property. He is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday at First District Court in Hempstead.
