New Cassel shooting victim dies
One of the victims of a New Cassel shooting that took place in July has died, Nassau police said.
Joe Smithson, 20, of New Cassel died of his injuries Sunday at Nassau University Medical Center after he was shot in the neck and chest at a party on Swalm Street this summer.
Three gunmen opened fire at the party on July 7, shooting four people, police said. They said a male victim, 21, suffered a gunshot wound to his left arm; a female victim, 17, was shot in her right thigh; another male, 17, suffered a wound to his left leg and Smithson had wounds to his neck and chest. Police said they were unsure how many times Smithson was shot.
There have been no arrests in the shooting, and police said the homicide squad will now take over the investigation.
