New Hyde Park grocery store reopened after evacuation for 'suspicious' package

A New Hyde Park grocery store was temporarily evacuated Sunday morning while Nassau County police investigated a suspicious package in the parking lot.

Police said they received a call at 9:39 a.m. reporting a suspicious package in the parking lot of the Stop and Shop grocery store on Hillside Avenue.

The item turned out to be nonhazardous, and the grocery store was reopened several hours later.
