MUSIC: Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra

WHAT The Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra -- not the original, of course -- brings its big-band sound to the Tilles stage for a matinee concert. Jimmy and brother Tommy introduced the world to a young singer named Frank Sinatra in the 1940s. The Dorsey band, now led by trombonist Bill Tole, accompanies some new voices, collectively known as the Pied Pipers, singing such wartime hits as "I'll Never Smile Again."

ART: 'Across Time & Place'

WHAT You still have time to catch "Across Time & Place: Treasures from the Permanent Collection" at the Heckscher Museum. The Huntington museum's limited, ever-revolving permanent collection space features 19th-century landscapes and figure paintings by European and American masters as well as Cubist and Abstract Expressionist works from the last century. But you can't miss, or shouldn't, Etienne Berne-Bellecour's monumental "Embarkation Maneuver." The painting documents the 1882 departure of an armored cavalry regiment at the end of the Franco-Prussian War.
