A second suspect who police believe was involved in the killing of a Woodmere man during a botched robbery in June has been ordered jailed without bail.

Anthony Jackson, 23, of 22 Pulaski St., Brooklyn, is charged with second-degree murder and was arraigned Friday morning at First District Court in Hempstead.

Police said Jackson and another Brooklyn man, Edward L. Williams, 30, of 163 Lefferts Place, shot Tristan Theodore Hughes, 20, of Woodmere, as Hughes ran from them during an attempted robbery on June 15.

Williams, who is represented by the Nassau County Legal Aid Society, pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder Wednesday and is also being held without bail.

Police said Hughes and a friend, whose name was not released, were returning to Hughes' South End Avenue home at about 1:40 a.m. when two armed men approached them and forced them into the house.

The men began to tie up Hughes and his friend, then decided against it and took the men back out to Hughes' 2004 black Infiniti, police said. Police would not say whether Hughes and his friend knew Williams and the other suspect.

One of the suspects was driving away when Hughes' friend jumped out of the moving car and escaped, police said. Hughes jumped out shortly after. As he did, one of the men shot him in the chest, according to police.

Believing he was being chased, Hughes stumbled through several nearby yards. Finally, he collapsed on a neighbor's back patio, banged on the door and begged for help. Homeowners called police. Hughes died several hours later at South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside.
