North Hills woman accused of jewelry scam
Nassau County police have arrested a North Hills woman who is accused of writing bogus checks to area jewelry stores for expensive items that were then quickly sold at local pawnshops.
Meridith Taylor, 45, of Tiffany Circle, was arrested at 1:38 p.m. Friday in Elmont and charged with three counts each of grand larceny and writing a bad check.
Taylor wrote several checks for expensive jewelry at stores throughout Nassau County despite knowing her bank accounts had been closed, police said.
Nassau police are advising area jewelers that may have been a victim of such a scheme to contact law enforcement.
Taylor will be arraigned Saturday in First District Court in Hempstead.
