THE BUDGET

The district proposes a $29,936,000 school budget for 2015-16, a 1.42 percent increase from the current $29,517,000. The local tax levy would rise 1.11 percent, from $21,138,606 to $21,374,087. The increase is within the state's tax cap limit of 2.18 percent, so a simple majority vote will be required to approve the budget. School taxes on the average single-family house would increase 1.09 percent, from $4,302.23 to $4,349.10.

The proposed school budget includes estimated teacher salary increases, subject to negotiation. Current staffing and program levels are maintained.

A ballot proposition would authorize the district to spend up to $14,650,000 for improvements, including new windows, boilers, heating, site work and safety systems at its three schools. Another proposition establishes a capital reserve fund of up to $3 million for improvements to district facilities. The ballot measures would not cause the district to surpass the district's tax cap.
