THE BUDGET

The district proposes a budget of $97,575,530 for 2015-16, a 1.8 percent increase from the current $95,850,329. The local tax levy would rise 1.93 percent, from $87,886,066 to $89,580,765.

The increase is below the state's tax-cap limit of 2.09 percent, so the budget will need a simple majority to pass.

School taxes on a single-family home would increase 3.83 percent, from $9,823 to $10,198. The budget proposal includes a half-percent increase across the board and a 2 percent average step increase for teachers, and adds one full-time science research teacher.

Voters also will be asked to consider allowing the district to spend $3,146,154 from its capital reserve fund to replace a boiler at Sea Cliff Elementary School, perform heating and ventilation work at Glen Head Elementary School, North Shore Middle School and North Shore High School, and perform duct work at North Shore High School. The district said the measure would not have any impact on the tax levy or tax rate.
