North Syosset Neighborhood Watch to meet
Concerned about what it sees as an increase in home burglaries in its area, the North Syosset Neighborhood Watch will hold a community meeting on the issue Monday night.
The group says the problem has been getting worse for more than a year and there have been a half-dozen burglaries in north Syosset alone in the past two months.
The participants in the session at the Shelter Rock Church, 178 Cold Spring Rd. will include John Berry, commanding officer of the Nassau County Police Second Precinct, representatives from the Nassau County executive's office and the Town of Oyster Bay, and insurance and security experts.
Berry said the number of break-ins in the area represents a normal upsurge seen around the county in the fall. He said he was going to the meeting to talk to residents about what they can do to protect their homes, such as leaving lights on at night, and helping police protect their neighborhood more effectively.
For further information or to RSVP for the meeting, contact the head of the neighborhood watch group, Jean Marie Scanapico, at threemaries3@yahoo.com.
