Pedestrian, 85, hit by car in North Wantagh seriously hurt, police say
An 85-year-old pedestrian was airlifted to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow after being struck and seriously injured by a car Wednesday in North Wantagh, police said.
A 72-year-old man was driving a 2013 Hyundai south on Seamans Neck Road when he struck the male pedestrian, who was crossing from east to west, Nassau County police said in a news release.
"The pedestrian suffered compound fractures to both legs and severe head trauma," police said.
Police did not identify either the victim or the driver.
The road was closed for hours at Twisting Lane for investigation, but has since reopened, police said.
While the investigation is ongoing, police said, "there is no apparent criminality at this time."
The Hyundai was impounded for a safety check.
