A motorcyclist speeding on the Northern State Parkway hit the back of a vehicle and was thrown off his bike Thursday morning in Nassau, State Police said.

The rider broke bones but was expected to survive the crash that occurred at 1:30 a.m. in the westbound lanes between Exits 25 and 26, on the border of Lake Success and North Hills, police said.

The westbound lanes were closed for hours and reopened at 5 a.m., authorities said. Other details were not released.
