An NYPD sergeant from Levittown began convulsing during a narcotics operation in Brooklyn Friday morning and died of a heart attack, police said.

Sgt. Patrick Divers, 51, part of the Brooklyn North narcotics team, was in a car, on duty near Myrtle and Nostrand avenues, when he began feeling chest pains about 10:30 a.m., police said. Fellow officers rushed him to the nearby Woodhull Medical Center, where he had a heart attack and was pronounced dead, police said.

Divers had made more than 1,000 arrests and earned 35 recognitions in his career for Excellent and Meritorious Police Duty during his 25 years with the NYPD.

He graduated from St. John's University.

He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter. The daughter answered the Divers' home phone last night and declined to speak.
