Official: Cops to remain at Baldwin HS after threat

Police will maintain a presence around two Baldwin schools Friday, after a threat was reported, district officials said. The threat led to a lockdown situation at both Baldwin High School and Brookside Elementary School, but that was lifted in early afternoon.

Nassau County police said the reported threat involved a message on a bathroom wall threatening a shooting at the high school.

A district spokeswoman told Newsday that a threat "came in as a text message to a student," and not in a message on a bathroom wall.

The spokeswoman, Cristina Schmohl, said the bathroom graffiti was "nonthreatening." She declined to elaborate.

A school district alert system message sent to parents said that, as a precautionary measure, the high school and elementary School were placed in an emergency mode called "shelter in place." That meant no one was let into or out of the school.
