Official: No threat found at school

No gun was found in a police search Thursday of all schools in the Massapequa School District, said Nassau County police and a spokeswoman for the district.

Police had been "investigating the threat of a gun" on the premises of the Unqua Elementary School, and when none was found officers expanded their search to all of the district's schools, Nassau County police said.

A secretary at Unqua Elementary School received "an anonymous phone call from an adult male" at 11:45 a.m. Thursday stating that there was "a gun in a backpack on the Unqua property," according to Felicia Febrizio, a Massapequa Public Schools spokeswoman.

The threat was determined to be "unfounded" after an investigation by police and school security staff, she said in an emailed statement.

As a precaution, she said, police investigated "the perimeter of every school building."

The school resumed its "regular daily procedures," according to a notice posted at 12:50 p.m. on the school's website.
