The Nassau County Fire Marshal’s Office has determined that an early morning fire Sunday at a greenskeepers’ house at the Glen Oaks Country Club in Old Westbury was accidental, Nassau police said.

One Westbury firefighter was injured in the blaze on Post Road and taken to a hospital for treatment of a broken foot, Nassau police said.

Former Westbury Fire Capt. Mike Rice said the fire started just after 5 a.m. and the two-story building was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. He said four occupants inside the building escaped.

A photograph of the scene shows flames rising up from the burning structure as about 150 firefighters battled the blaze.

Westbury firefighters, along with crews from departments in Hicksville, Jericho, Carle Place, Oyster Bay, Roslyn, Syosset and East Meadow, had the fire under control in about two hours.

Police said the Nassau County Fire Marshal’s Office has closed its investigation after finding the blaze was accidental and began on the exterior of the building just left of the front door. The fire marshal’s office did not provide details.
