Firefighters from seven departments in Nassau County battled an early morning blaze Thursday in Valley Stream that damaged a commercial building with residential units attached, fire officials said.

Nassau County fire officials said nine residents were evacuated from the units attached to the building on North Central Avenue and said one person was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

The fire was reported in a call at 6:07 a.m., Nassau police said. Volunteers from Valley Stream, Woodmere, Elmont, Lynbrook, Malverne, Franklin Square and Lawrence-Cedarhurst responded to the scene, near the intersection of North Central and Stein streets. Fire officials said fire marshals are investigating the cause of the blaze.

Fire officials described the property as "a large commercial building with residential units attached." The commercial portion of the building houses a sign company, according to records and photos.
