Shahin Sedgh of Westbury set house fire in his bedroom, cops say
Nassau police arrested a Westbury man Monday in connection with a house fire investigators said he started in his bedroom earlier in the morning.
A 911 call at about 5 a.m. alerted police to the fire, police said. When officers arrived on the scene, two occupants of the home were outside the residence but said another resident, Shahin Sedgh, 30, was still inside, according to police.
Third Precinct officers entered the burning home on Livingston Street and escorted Sedgh to safety before investigators determined he set the fire, officials said.
Sedgh faces charges of second-degree arson and first-degree reckless endangerment, police said. He was scheduled for arraignment Monday at First District Court in Hempstead.
Firefighters from Westbury and Hicksville extinguished the fire and the Red Cross was at scene to provide assistance, police said.
