The village of Old Westbury has awarded a $672,360 contract to West Babylon-based Araz Industries Inc. for work on one of its wells.

The board voted unanimously 5-0 on Monday to award the contract.

Contractors will adjust about 700 feet of water main piping in the village’s sixth well, said Village Administrator Brian Ridgway. The project is estimated to begin in February or March and conclude by early spring.

The water main will be lowered to enable a “better flow of water to the entire water system network” once the village completes its planned 1 million-gallon water storage tank, Ridgway said.

The new $3.8 million water tank will be on a village-owned parcel near the Old Westbury Country Club and behind one of the seven wells on Whitney-Phipps-Garvin Drive.

Mayor Fred Carillo said Tuesday that construction on the tank started about a week ago. Ridgway said there is a six-month timeline for completion of the new tank, though weather is a “key factor” that could affect scheduling.
