One man was arrested on a robbery charge Monday and officers are looking for his accomplice after a mugging and chain-snatching in East Garden City, Nassau County police said.

Police said the victim, a 24-year-old man, was followed by two men as he got off a bus at Stewart Avenue at about 7:26 a.m.

Police said Christopher Washington, 24, of 101 Ruxton St., Uniondale, and another man followed the victim as he walked to his place of employment. As the victim neared his destination, Washington and the other man jumped him, ripping a gold chain from his neck, according to a news release.

The two men ran off, and police later found Washington at Commercial Avenue and Oak Street, where he was arrested on the robbery charge.

Police said the pendant was not recovered, and that they continue to search for the second man in the robbery.

The victim was not injured.

Washington is scheduled to be arraigned on the robbery charge Tuesday at First District Court in Hempstead.
