A Merrick man was identified as the person killed in a single-vehicle crash on the eastbound Southern State Parkway late Sunday night, New York State Police said.
Abraham Toribio, 20, left the roadway and struck a light pole and multiple trees before coming to rest on the shoulder, state police said in an updated news release Tuesday. Toribio was ejected from the vehicle during the collision, which happened on the eastbound side of the Southern State east of Exit 29 at about 11:30 p.m. Sunday, police said.
He was transported to Nassau University Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased.
Police said unsafe speed and a slippery pavement were contributing factors in this crash.
