One firefighter hurt battling Great Neck house fire, police say

Firefighters from seven departments battled a house fire late Saturday in Great Neck that left one of them with a minor injury, Nassau County police said.
The home was already fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived, prompting crews to try to contain the blaze, rather than salvage the home, Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Chief Mike Farrone said.
About 125 firefighters responded to the Windsor Road house, police said.
One firefighter from an undisclosed department sustained a minor eye injury, police said.
Nassau County police arson bomb squad is investigating the cause of the 11:12 p.m. fire. Detectives said the start of the blaze does not appear to be suspicious.
The loss at the two and a half-story home was estimated at least $500,000 in damage.
Crews halted flames from burning trees and seriously damaging a neighboring home, which sustained minor window and side paneling damage, Farrone said.
Other fire crews including the Great Neck Fire Department, Port Washington Fire New Hyde Park and Garden City battled the blaze and remained on scene to mop up hot spots for about six hours, until 5 a.m.
