 The accident happened about 8:49 a.m., according to a police spokeswoman, near <a href="/topics/Hempstead%2C_NY">Hempstead</a> Turnpike and Loring Road. 
 The injured person was taken to the hospital for observation, the spokeswoman said. She had no other details.
