One man was killed and another critically injured when they were struck by a car while walking on Flanders Road in Riverside on Sunday night, Southampton Town police said.
A 1997 Chevrolet Monte Carlo was traveling south on Flanders Road, just north of Vail Avenue, at 7:53 p.m. when it "struck two male pedestrians that were crossing the roadway," police said in a news release Monday.
One pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene; the second, 58, was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital in critical condition, police said. The driver of the car was not injured and "no criminality has been established at this time," the release said.
State Police assisted at the scene, and Flanders Road was closed for about three hours as authorities investigated.
Police on Monday said they were unable to immediately identify the man who was killed and also had no other details on the accident.
Anyone with information can call the Southampton Town Police Detective Division at 631-702-2230. All calls will be kept confidential.
