A 49-year-old man who was critically injured when he was struck by a car Sunday night in Freeport has died, Nassau County police said.

Police identified the man as Oscar Saquij-Cruz of Freeport and said he died Thursday.

Saquij-Cruz sustained what police described earlier this week as "multiple trauma injuries" when he was struck by a white 2020 Subaru Forester headed westbound on Sunrise Highway.

The collision took place near South Main Street and was reported in a 911 call at 8:08 p.m., police said.

Saquij-Cruz was transported to a local hospital, where he later died, police said.

The 66-year-old driver remained at the scene and has not been charged.
