Stubborn overnight fire damages Hempstead church, officials say

The Nassau County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause and origin of a stubborn fire Saturday night at a church in Hempstead, officials said.
There were no injuries.
According to fire department records, the fire at Changing Lives Ministries on Florence Avenue started about 11:50 p.m. and took more than three hours to bring under control at 3 a.m.
In addition to the Hempstead department, others that responded included West Hempstead, South Hempstead, Lakeville, Uniondale, Rockville Center and Mineola.
Further information about the fire was not immediately available and phone calls to the church went unanswered.
