An overturned car closed eastbound Hempstead Turnpike in Levittown for several hours Monday, beginning at about 6:40 a.m., police said.

Details about possible injuries were not immediately available nor was the cause of the accident. There were reports from witnesses that the car collided with an ambulette - but Nassau County police said they could not confirm that.

The road was closed between Division Avenue and Grassy Lane in an area adjacent to the Tri-County flea market.

It was originally reported that the overturned vehicle was a truck - but photographs from the scene later revealed it to be a dark-colored Ford Mustang. Police said the investigation was continuing.
