The Oyster Bay Town Board plans to consider more than doubling the amount approved to pay Linda Mondello and PR Inc. for providing historic preservation and developing special events to correct what town officials said was an error.

Deputy Town Supervisor Gregory Carman said the change would not be an increase in pay, rather it would restore the contract amount to what had originally been contemplated and would be in line with past practice.

Mondello is the wife of Nassau County Republican Committee chairman Joseph Mondello.

The amendment would double the amount of spending approved by the board last year to $75,000 per year instead of $75,000 for the 34-month duration of the contract.

Towns Parks Commissioner Joseph Pinto requested the change, according to the draft resolution, because the intent of the board’s action last year had been to approve the amount on a per-year basis, but last year’s resolution had been incorrectly drafted.

Linda Mondello and PR Inc. were hired to develop special events at a town park known as the Littauer Estate in Oyster Bay Cove. Town records show that in 2015 Mondello was paid $41,625 and PR Inc. $27,250.

The current contracts run from March 1 of this year through Dec. 31, 2018, with an option for a two-year extension.

Oyster Bay officials first hired Linda Mondello in 2007 as a $100-per-hour consultant to oversee preservation on the 26-acre farm.
