Pair charged with impersonating officers
A man and a woman were arrested Saturday after they impersonated police officers, pulled over another car and stole money from the occupants, Nassau police said.
Marylynn De Joseph, 42, of Bellerose, and Twayne Dash, 23, of Springfield Gardens, Queens, were driving in a 2003 Chevrolet Malibu on Jericho Turnpike in Bellerose at 7 p.m. when De Joseph began honking the horn and cursing at the driver of another car, in an attempt to get the car to pull over, police said.
The driver of the car, a 19-year-old male, pulled over on Pennsylvania Boulevard, while his 18-year-old passenger dialed 911.
Police said De Joseph then pulled alongside the car and identified herself as a police officer, while Dash got out of the car and walked over to the driver's door, also identifying himself as a police officer.
Dash said he wanted to search the car and asked for identification, police said. The driver opened the center console to get his ID, revealing money stored in the console. He resisted Dash's attempts to search the car, but Dash forced his way through the window and took the cash, police said.
The two then fled in the car, police said, but were found after an investigation.
De Joseph and Dash were arrested and charged with second-degree robbery, first-degree criminal impersonation, and fourth degree conspiracy.
They are scheduled to be arraigned Monday in First District Court in Hempstead.
