Pair charged with stealing cellphone
Two Elmont men were arrested after they strong-armed a man on Covert Avenue early Monday morning and stole his cellphone, police said.
The robbery occurred at 2:20 a.m. near the corner of Covert Avenue and Hancock Street in Elmont.
Nassau County police said Nicholas Medina, 30, of Oakley Avenue, and Makese Gadson, 32, of Johnson Avenue, approached the 26-year-old victim and demanded his cellphone. They struggled with him before stealing it and fleeing, police said.
The victim called police and together they found Medina and Gadson, who were then arrest, police said.
The suspects were charged with second-degree robbery.
Both were arraigned Monday. Arraignment details were not immediately available.
