Nassau County police are investigating two armed robberies that occurred within a half hour of each other Friday night in Hempstead Village.

The first occurred about 8:30 p.m. on Main Street. The victim, a 36-year-old man, was walking north on Main when two males approached him, one armed with a handgun, police said.

After one suspect took cash from the victim's pockets, the other hit the man in the back of the head with the gun, police said. The suspects fled south on Main Street.

About 9 p.m., a 31-year-old man was walking north on Washington Avenue when he was attacked from behind by two male suspects. One of them hit the victim multiple times in the head with the gun, but the victim managed to wrest the weapon away, police said.

The suspects fled on foot in an unknown direction.

Police recovered the 9mm pistol used in the attack. The victim in the second attack was treated and released, police said.
