Pair shot in Hempstead, say police

A man and a women were both shot and wounded near a Hempstead intersection Tuesday night, police said.

The man, shot in the leg and hand, was taken to Winthrop Hospital Medical Center in Mineola, where he was listed in critical but stable condition, Hempstead police said. The woman, who was wounded in the leg, was listed in stable condition, police said.

Hempstead Lt. Kevin Colgan said the shooting took place shortly after 9 p.m. near the intersection of Fulton and Hendrikson avenues.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting were still under investigation late Tuesday night, and no additional information was immediately available, Colgan said.
