Passover food drive, distribution begins

The Nassau County Police Department’s Shomrim Society held its annual Passover food drive and distribution Sunday when food packages were taken to approximately 74 needy families in Nassau and Suffolk counties.
This year marks the 26th year of helping the less fortunate celebrate Passover. Shomrim comprises Jewish law enforcement officers in Nassau County and is a branch of National Conference of Shomrim Societies.
Most of the families who received the food packages are clients of the Plainview-based Hatzilu Rescue, an organization that helps support those in need all year, not just for the holiday.
Shomrim members and their families joined with Hatzilu members and made the deliveries to identified families. Children helped out as well.
The food distribution is made from a warehouse at 200 Albany Ave. in Freeport. The space was made available by Scott Horowitz, president of Nassau Provisions Kosher Foods, based in Freeport.
