Gov. David A. Paterson said Sunday night that he has selected Hofstra University, where he studied law, as the location to kick off his election campaign on Saturday.

The event is open to the public, he said.

Paterson told Newsday he has invited some of his former teachers to the event at the university's student center. He attended nursery, elementary and high school in Hempstead and returned to Nassau for law school.

"Believe it or not, I have teachers who are still around," the governor said.

After Hofstra, Paterson will make similar campaign announcements in Rochester on Saturday afternoon, in Buffalo on Sunday morning and at a rally in Harlem later that afternoon.
