A 25-year-old New Cassel woman was arrested Monday night and charged with robbery after police said she grabbed cash from a cab driver's hand, scuffled with the driver and ran off -- before being located by Third Precinct officers.

The robbery occurred at about 10:30 p.m. in New Cassel, Nassau County police said.

The defendant, identified as Patricia Wright, of 245 Wright St., was charged with third-degree robbery following her arrest, police said. She faces arraignment Tuesday in First District Court in Hempstead.

Wright was a fare in a Taxi Hispanic Express cab being operated by a 37-year-old male driver, entering the cab on Third Avenue, police said. A short time later, police said, Wright grabbed an undisclosed amount of cash from the driver's hand and, following a brief struggle, fled the cab on Hopper Street -- running through a yard to flee the scene.

Responding officers then located and arrested Wright near Broadway, police said.

No one was injured.
