It began as an accidental bump between patrons at a Baldwin bar, police said Monday.

It ended with a 36-year-old man shot twice in the upper abdomen inside the Love Jones Bar Sunday evening -- and Nassau County police searching for the assailant.

The victim, whose identity has not been released, was transported by automobile to a local hospital and is in critical condition, police said.

Police said the incident occurred inside the bar on Grand Avenue at 11:19 p.m. The victim "accidentally bumped into the subject" inside the bar and, following an altercation, police said the "subject" was asked to leave. He did, but returned a short time later, police said, displayed a handgun -- and shot the victim twice.

The gunman then fled into a waiting vehicle, police said.

No one else was injured.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the incident to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
