Nassau County police homicide detectives are investigating the death of a Bellport man who died of injuries sustained when he was struck by heavy machinery at a mason yard in North Lawrence on Monday, police said.

Around 9 a.m., a 33-year-old man working at the mason yard on Johnson Road was operating a large payloader when he struck a fellow employee, Michael Porter, 54, of Bellport, Nassau police said.

After Nassau officers responded to the mason yard, Porter was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The incident remained under investigation, Nassau police said.

A company representative who answered the phone at a mason yard listed under an address where the incident occurred declined to comment on Tuesday.
