A pedestrian suffered “severe head injuries” after being struck by a vehicle early Wednesday morning on Newbridge Road in Hicksville, police said.

The identity of the pedestrian was not released.

Nassau County police said the accident occurred on southbound Newbridge north of Duffy Avenue — in the vicinity of the Hicksville Long Island Rail Road station — at 5:56 a.m.

The crash forced the closure of southbound Newbridge at West John Street for about two hours, police said.

Newbridge Road is a busy north-south thoroughfare through the area, and West John also is heavily traveled.

The road was reopened at about 8 a.m.

Police said the driver has not been charged, but said the accident was under investigation.
