Pedestrian critical after North Merrick pickup crash
A 75-year-old pedestrian was critically injured when he was struck by a pickup in North Merrick Tuesday afternoon, Nassau police said.
The injured man, who was not identified by police, suffered broken bones in his arms and legs, as well as intercranial bleeding, Nassau police said. He was transported by North Merrick Fire Department ambulance to a hospital for treatment, police said.
The victim was walking across Merrick Avenue near Jerusalem Avenue at 3:13 p.m., police said, when he was struck by a 2008 Ford pickup that was traveling south on Merrick Avenue.
First Squad detectives who were investigating the crash said there was no apparent criminality involved.
