Police have identified the woman who was killed Tuesday while crossing Cornwell Avenue in West Hempstead.

Cathy Leary, 75, of West Hempstead was crossing at the intersection of Wildwood Road at 6:47 a.m. when she was struck by the driver of a 2019 Hyundai SUV traveling east on Cornwell Avenue, Nassau police said.

She was declared dead at the scene by authorities.

The driver, identified only as a 19-year-old male, remained at the scene, police said.

Police said the investigation continues.
