Pedestrian fatally struck in Massapequa Park
A woman was killed by an oncoming car Friday night as she attempted to cross Sunrise Highway in Massapequa Park, Nassau police said.
Police said the victim, 44, whose name was withheld pending notification of her family, suffered severe head trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:32 p.m.
She was crossing the highway near Lake Shore Drive when she was struck by a 2009 Nissan driven by a 63-year-old woman traveling in the right eastbound lane.
Detectives said there was no apparent criminality.
The vehicle passed all safety inspections at scene. The investigation is ongoing.
