A pedestrian was taken to the hospital with significant head and neck injuries after he was hit by a car in Lynbrook at Sunrise Highway and Broadway on Tuesday night, Lynbrook police said.

Police said the man, roughly 45 years old, is in critical condition at South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside after he stepped off the median and into an oncoming car. Police said there was no criminality in the incident, which happened at 8:52 p.m.

Nassau County Fourth Precinct detectives also are investigating.
