A 69-year-old pedestrian was seriously injured in Hewlett Wednesday afternoon when a pickup truck struck her as it turned into a parking lot, pinning her under the vehicle, police said.

The woman, from Woodmere, suffered multiple compound fractures, police said, and was airlifted to a hospital for treatment.

She was walking across the driveway into the parking lot at 1319 Broadway at 12:48 p.m., police said, when the 1996 Dodge pickup struck her.

The pickup, operated by a 46-year-old West Hempstead man, was impounded for brake and safety checks, police said, but there was no apparent criminality.
