Pedestrian hit by SUV in Hewlett

A 32-year-old Hewlett man suffered serious injuries Thursday after he was struck by a SUV while crossing West Broadway in Hewlett, Nassau police said.

Fourth Squad detectives did not identify the victim or the 66-year-old Lawrence woman who they said was driving the 2005 Chevrolet Suburban westbound on West Broadway when she hit the pedestrian at about 3:20 p.m.

The victim suffered serious head and leg injuries and was airlifted to a hospital for treatment. Police said the crash occurred as the victim stepped into the street to cross.

His view of the road may have been obstructed, police said.

Police said they suspect no criminality in the incident so no charges will be filed.
