A 66-year-old woman is in critical condition after being struck by an intoxicated truck driver in East Rockaway on Friday evening, according to the Nassau County Police Department.
The crash happened just before 6 p.m. at the intersection of Atlantic and Denton avenues. Adrian Raghunanan, 26, of Queens, struck the unidentified female pedestrian while driving through that area in a 2024 Chevrolet pickup, according to Nassau police.
The victim "suffered severe trauma" and was taken to a hospital where she was in critical condition as of Saturday morning, according to a news release from the department.
A police spokesman declined to provide additional information about the woman's injuries or how the crash happened.
Raghunanan remained at the scene and was arrested after police determined he "was operating his vehicle in an intoxicated condition," according to the agency's news release and spokesman.
The 26-year-old Queens man is facing charges of second-degree vehicular assault and driving while intoxicated. He is scheduled to appear in Hempstead's First District Court on Saturday.
