A 19-year-old man sustained serious head injuries early Sunday when he was hit by a car while crossing a street in New Hyde Park, Nassau County police said.

The victim, who was not identified, was crossing south across Jericho Turnpike at 12:53 a.m. when he was hit by a 2006 Toyota traveling west on Jericho Turnpike at Leonard Boulevard, police said.

The victim was taken by Nassau police ambulance to a hospital for treatment of head trauma. Police said he was listed in serious but stable condition.

The driver of the Toyota, a 26-year-old man who police did not identify, passed a Breathalyzer test at the scene. Police conducted brake and safety checks on the vehicle at the scene. Police have said no criminality is suspected in this case so far.
