A van struck and killed a woman walking on Meacham Avenue in Elmont Thursday evening, police said.

Nassau County police identified the woman as Nancy Stanzione, 64, of Elmont. They said she was walking north in the road at about 7:25 p.m. when she was struck by a northbound 2003 Ford van.

Stanzione was taken to Franklin Hospital Medical Center in Valley Stream, but was pronounced dead at 7:49 p.m., police said.

The driver of the van remained at the scene and was not charged. Police said the van was impounded for a routine safety check, but said no criminality is suspected.
