A pedestrian was seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle in Garden City Park on Wednesday night, Nassau County police said.

The female victim, 35, was trying to cross Jericho Turnpike west of Fifth Avenue when she was struck about 5:40 p.m. , police said. She suffered serious face and head injuries and was transported to a hospital.

The westbound male driver, 60, stayed at the scene, officials said, and no criminality appeared to be involved. He was not injured and the vehicle was tested for brakes and safety.

Jericho Turnpike was shut for more than four hours in both directions between Old Broadway and Sixth Avenue as investigators gathered details, police said.
